Four Panthers Named to All-GLIAC Baseball Squad

BAY CITY, Mich. – Seniors Felix Brown (Philispburg, St. Maarten) and JT Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio) were selected to the GLIAC Baseball All-Conference Second Team and senior Germaine McAlpine (Canton, Ohio) and junior Tyler Zaidel (Cincinnati, Ohio) were named honorable mention, announced Thursday in voting done by the league's head coaches.

The group helped lead ODU to a fifth-place finish in its inaugural season in the GLIAC this spring with a 16-19 mark in conference play, 19-27 overall.

Brown batted .326 this spring to lead the Panther offense, and he also paced the team in runs scored (32), doubles (8) and walks (26). Brown also drove in 16 runs, had a .438 on-base percentage and stole 14 bags. He started all 44 games in which he played, missing just two appearances due to graduation, and led the team with six multi-RBI games and was second with 11 multi-hit efforts. He batted .359 against GLIAC opponents with a .487 on-base percentage. For his career, Brown hit .352 with 143 runs scored, 217 hits, 34 doubles, one home run, 111 RBI, and a .453 on-base percentage. He played in 200 games in an ODU uniform and made 195 starts.

Feldkamp was limited to just 29 games this spring due to injury but still batted .313 with a pair of home runs and 20 RBI. He walked 14 times to just six strikeouts and registered a .437 on-base percentage. Feldkamp also had six multi-hit efforts and four multi-RBI games this spring. In his career, Feldkamp made 123 starts and was a .316 lifetime hitter with 11 home runs and 81 RBI, to go along with a .428 on-base percentage.

McAlpine appeared in 45 games and made 43 starts, hitting .302 with a home run and a team-high 23 runs batted in. He had a .373 on-base percentage and swiped 16 bags, which ranked seventh in the GLIAC. The leftfielder scored 28 runs, which was second to Brown on the team, and he also led the team with 12 multi-hit games. For his career, McAlpine batted .321 and played in 185 games, making 139 starts, while scoring 143 runs, driving in 70, and stealing 51 bases.

Zaidel, like Feldkamp, battled injuries this spring but still posted a .266 batting average in 29 starts while scoring 14 runs. He tallied 11 RBI and finished with a .337 on-base percentage while recording eight multi-hit efforts in the spring. Zaidel will enter his senior campaign with 90 starts under his belt and a .248 career average with 34 RBI.
