Baseball Tabbed Fifth in Preseason Coaches' Poll

BAY CITY, Mich. - Announced earlier this afternoon by the league office, Ohio Dominican was recently voted fifth in the 2012 GLIAC Baseball Coaches' Preseason Poll.

With 47 points, the Panthers were picked to finish fifth in the 10-team field, solidly ahead of Northwood (Mich.) in sixth with 34 points. Defending champion and College World Series Participant Grand Valley State (Mich.), the NCBWA Division II preseason No. 4, easily claimed the spot over Wayne State (Mich.) with 80 points and eight of the 10 first-place votes. The Warriors collected 68 points, followed by Ashland in third with 65 points and a first-place nod, while Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) was slotted fourth with 56 points.

Rounding out the bottom four was Tiffin in seventh with 32 points and the final first-place vote, followed by Lake Erie (31 points), Hillsdale (22 points) and Findlay (15 points) in 10th.

Along with six returning starters and four starting pitchers from last year, ODU's lineup and rotation will be bolstered by the addition of 27 newcomers, including 26 freshmen, 10 of which are pitchers.

The Panthers open the season with a three-game set at Bellarmine (Ky.), beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 3.
