WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's baseball team scored six unanswered runs to take a late lead, but ultimately fell 8-6 in 10 innings to Minnesota State-Mankato Friday at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational.

The Panthers had stormed back from a 5-0 deficit in the fourth to go in front 6-5 in the seventh, but the Mavericks tied it with an unearned run in the ninth, then plated the game-winning tallies in the top of the 10th as ODU fell to 0-4 in extra inning games this spring.

Junior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) and sophomore Kevin Lydic (Dublin, Ohio) each had two hits for the Panthers, who dropped to 3-9 on the season. Minnesota State improved to 5-2.

After falling in that five-run hole, ODU responded with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth. An RBI double by sophomore Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio) scored classmate Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio), and Lydic delivered an RBI basehit that would bring in two runners after a Maverick error.

Delgado would make it a 5-4 game in the fifth inning, as his sac fly to center scored sophomore Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio), who had walked and stole a base earlier in the inning.

The Panthers broke through to take the lead in the seventh, loading the bases with one down. After a strikeout, ODU needed a clutch two-out hit, and Tisdale answered with a two-run single, bringing home Schluessler and Lydic to give the Panthers a 6-5 lead.

Freshman Ryan Colegate (Centerville, Ohio) worked a scoreless eighth, but allowed the tying run in the ninth after an ODU error started the inning.

ODU went down in order in its half of the ninth, and the Mavericks put up two runs in the 10th to take a lead. The Panthers then went down in order again in the bottom half to close the game.

Sophomore Cole Carpenter (Zanesville, Ohio) did not earn a decision in six innings, allowing five runs. Colegate allowed two runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings of relief.

Minnesota State finished with 14 hits to ODU's eight, and the Panthers also committed four errors in the setback.

Ohio Dominican returns to the diamond at 9 a.m. Saturday as the Panthers take on Notre Dame (Ohio) in the final game of their spring break trip.
