COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming off of an eight-game homestand, Ohio Dominican's baseball team plays its first GLIAC road games of the 2013 season as the Panthers head to Hillsdale for a three-game series with the Chargers this week.
ODU and Hillsdale will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a single nine inning game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Panthers enter the week with a 9-13 overall record and 5-3 mark in GLIAC play, while Hillsdale is 10-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
ODU dropped two of three games to visiting Saginaw Valley over the weekend, falling by scores of 6-2 and 8-3 before rallying for a 14-2 victory in the final game on Saturday. The Panthers hit .347 as a team for the weekend, led by six hits apiece by sophomores Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) and Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio), while senior Ryan Rovnak (Poland, Ohio) batted .500, drew five walks and knocked in four runs.
Sophomore Daniel Mooney (Wauconda, Ill.) was sharp on Saturday, tossing a complete game seven-hitter and allowing just one earned run in the victory. He induced a pair of double play groundouts and struck out seven, including fanning the side in the seventh, to earn his third victory of the spring.
The Panthers have remained one of the top hitting teams in the conference, batting .302 this spring, which is third in the GLIAC. ODU's 127 runs scored are fourth-best in the league as well.
On the mound, ODU has a 4.38 ERA, which is good for fifth in the conference, and the Panthers are seventh with 117 strikeouts as a staff.
Hillsdale is looking to snap a four-game losing skid, which includes a three-game sweep against Tiffin last weekend. The Chargers are batting .271 as a squad, which is tenth in the GLIAC, and are eighth with 95 total runs scored. The pitching staff has a combined 5.43 ERA as well.
ODU took three of four games from Hillsdale last year at Panther Valley in a tightly contested series. Hillsdale won the opener 2-1 in 11 innings, but ODU grabbed the final three by scores of 4-3, 4-2 and 2-1.
