PEMBROKE, N.C. – Senior first baseman Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) was named a Second Team Preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday.
Childers is coming off of a junior season in which he was a consensus Second Team All-American and Midwest Region Player of the Year selection. Also named the GLIAC Player of the Year and a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award as the best player in Division II, Childers led Division II in batting average (.451) and slugging percentage (.846) while ranking fifth with a .526 on-base percentage. He tallied 28 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI games, finishing the year with 14 homers, 60 RBIs, 17 doubles, five triples and 18 stolen bases while scoring 62 runs.
Last week, he was named to the 2018 NCBWA Midwest Region Preseason First Team.
Ohio Dominican finished 2017 with a 25-24 record and opens the 2018 season with a three-game series against Georgia Southwestern on Feb. 10-11.
