INDIANAPOLIS – Senior quarterback Grant Russell (Newark, Ohio) was tabbed as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance on Saturday against Penn.

Russell completed 25-of-35 passes (71.4 percent) for 273 yards and two touchdowns against the FCS foe, which has won two straight Ivy League titles. He helped direct ODU to 22 first downs and 458 yards of total offense against a Penn defense that was stout last year, limiting FCS opponents to 21 points and 380 yards per contest.

The third-year starter has already thrown for 1,021 yards through three games, ranking sixth in Division II in passing. He has tossed seven touchdowns without an interception and has now thrown 147 consecutive passes without a pick. Russell is completing 72.0 percent of his throws this fall, the sixth best mark in Division II as well.

This is the second time in his career that he has earned conference player of the week honors, also earning the nod last October against Northern Michigan when he threw for 384 yards and four scores.

Ohio Dominican will play its home and G-MAC opener at 7 p.m. Saturday against Lake Erie.
