Football Moves Up To No. 17; Neidhardt, Thompson Recognized By G-MAC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following its 28-23 victory over California (Pa.) on Thursday night, Ohio Dominican's football team moved up to No. 17 in the AFC Top 25 poll, and senior Ross Thompson (Delphos, Ohio) and sophomore Logen Neidhardt (Hicksville, Ohio) earned G-MAC Player of the Week recognition.

ODU was ranked No. 23 in the preseason poll and scored a hard-fought win against the Vulcans, who were the top team receiving votes in the preseason. This week, the Panthers garnered 229 votes in moving up six spots in the rankings.

Earlier Monday, Thompson was honored as the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Neidhardt was named the G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week following superlative efforts on Thursday.

Thompson racked up 15 tackles to lead the defense while also intercepting a pass and breaking up two others. It was the first career interception for the linebacker and the second-most tackles he's made in a game in his career. This is the second career player of the week honor for Thompson, who also earned the distinction from the GLIAC in 2016 following a 17-tackle performance in a win over Wayne State.

Neidhardt, meanwhile, set a career-high by averaging 47.7 yards per punt on six attempts, blasting three over 50 yards, and also placing three inside the Cal 20. He had a long punt of 56 yards, just two shy of matching his career-best, and had a punt downed at the Cal two yard line. The 2017 G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Year, this is the third career player of the week honor for the sophomore.

Ohio Dominican will play host to No. 18 Ashland at 7 p.m. Saturday at Panther Stadium.
