TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team couldn't find enough scoring to answer Tiffin's second half offensive flurry as the Panthers fell 86-78 on the road in GLIAC South Division action Thursday night.

ODU led 38-31 at the break, but Tiffin outscored ODU 55-40 in a see-saw affair after intermission.

The Panthers fell to 3-9 on the season (0-7 GLIAC), while the Dragons moved to 6-8 (1-6 GLIAC).

Senior guard Darrien Douglas (Willard, Ohio) had a season-high 18 points, hitting three three-pointers. Junior guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) had 15 points, seven rebounds and a season-best six assists, senior forward Zak Kapron (Malvern, Ohio) had his third-career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and senior forward Jake Mochoskay (Mansfield, Ohio) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Freshman forward Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) came off the bench to score nine points and senior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) had eight rebounds and four blocked shots as well.

ODU's defense was stifling in the early going, harassing the Dragons into 1-of-7 shooting and six turnovers to start the contest. The Panthers opened on an 11-2 run over the opening 5:12, highlighted by a one-handed slam from Mochoskay off of a lob in transition by Gibbs (pictured).

ODU's lead grew to as many as 13 at 18-5 on a jump shot by sophomore guard Brandon Carr (Westchester, Ill.), but some missed shots inside allowed the Dragons to cut the deficit to three on a pair of occasions, including 24-21. The Panthers bounced back with a 10-2 surge as Mochoskay hit a step-back three and Douglas sank another triple coming around a screen to bump the advantage to 34-23, and ODU would take a 38-31 lead into the locker room.

Tiffin, though, scored the first five points of the second half and would tie the ballgame at 43 early on. Douglas responded with a four-point play as he buried a triple in front of the ODU bench and was fouled to make it 47-43, starting a 9-2 ODU run that put the Panthers back in front 52-45.

The Dragons ratcheted up their full court pressure, scoring 13 unanswered and taking a 58-52 lead on back-to-back threes with less than 10 to play. Kapron made three free throws and Jones drilled an 18-foot jumper and a transition layin to put ODU back on top 59-58 with 8:30 to play.

Another Tiffin flurry gave the home team a 65-60 advantage at the 6:01 mark. Mochoskay sank a jump shot a step inside the free throw line to make it 65-62, and the teams traded buckets over the next few minutes until the Dragons hit two straight field goals to grab a seven-point lead at 73-66 with 3:08 left.

The lead grew to eight until a jump shot by Jones made it 75-69 at the 1:40 mark, and a Douglas jump shot moments later made it a five-point game, but the Dragons made enough free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

ODU shot 28-of-70 from the field (40 percent) and outrebounded the Dragons 46-42, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds for a second-straight game. Tiffin hit 20-of-34 shots in the second half and shot 50 percent from the field overall (33-of-66), tallying 25 assists on their buckets.

Ohio Dominican returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday as ODU plays host to Lake Erie in a GLIAC South Division matchup in Alumni Hall.
