COLUMBUS, Ohio – A slow shooting start was too much for Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team to overcome as the Panthers fell 69-58 to visiting Ashland Thursday night in a GLIAC South Division contest.
Junior guard Morgan Jones (Oberlin, Ohio) scored 16 points and handed out six assists, and senior guard Darrien Douglas (Willard, Ohio) added 15 points. Senior forward Aaron Gibbs (Oberlin, Ohio) had nine points and hauled down 13 boards to pace Ohio Dominican, which shot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) after shooting just 8-of-35 (22.9 percent) from the floor in the first half.
ODU missed 13 of its first 14 shots as Ashland started the game on a 14-2 run. The Panthers scored the next five on buckets by freshman forward Bobby Stauffer (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Brock Ammons (Findlay, Ohio) to make it 14-7, but the Eagles would go on to push their advantage to 19 before the break.
The Panthers (3-17, 0-14 GLIAC) managed to cut it to 10 on several occasions in the second half but could draw no closer as Ashland (12-8, 7-6) shot 50 percent (13-of-26) in the second half and 50.9 percent (27-of-53) for the game overall.
Ohio Dominican hits the road Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip-off at Lake Erie.
