COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team shot a season-best 63.6 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point range en route to a 101-67 win over Northwood at Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.
ODU (9-5, 4-4 GLIAC) scored a season-high 101 points in the win, the most points scored in a game for the Panthers since a 104-69 win over Silver Lake on November 21, 2015 and the most points for Ohio Dominican against a GLIAC opponent since it joined the conference in the 2010-11 season.
Ohio Dominican held a significant, 55-19 edge in bench points over Northwood and as a team, ODU made 15 three-point field goals, going 15-of-27 from downtown (62.5 percent) while limiting the Timberwolves to 10-of-36 (27.8 percent) from long range. Overall, five Panthers recorded double-figures in points and 10 players scored for ODU overall.
Freshman Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) led the Panthers with 24 points, connecting on 8-of-11 three-point field goals to tie a career mark for threes made in a game. Hickey hit eight three-pointers in a 74-62 win for ODU against Northern Michigan on December 8, 2016, and both performances rank second in Ohio Dominican men's basketball history for most three-point field goals made in a game.
Junior Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) finished with eight points, a career-high 12 rebounds and six assists. Sophomore Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) recorded a career-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Junior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) scored 16 points in 16 minutes of play. Freshman Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) recorded 11 points and five rebounds, and freshman Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) scored 11 points off the bench on 5-of-8 shooting from the field for Ohio Dominican.
ODU held a 34-31 lead at the 5:00 mark of the first half, when a three-pointer by Hoyng pushed the Panther lead to 37-31 and sparked a 15-3 run to end the half, giving the Panthers a 49-35 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Panthers kept their foot on the gas to begin the second half, beginning the half on a 28-8 run, which encompassed a 43-12 run overall. Hickey connected on his sixth three of the game at the 11:11 mark of the second half to hit the apex of the run, giving the Panthers a 77-43 lead, which they maintained en route to a 101-67 victory.
Ohio Dominican has won three-straight and boasts a 5-2 record at Alumni Hall this year. Dating back to last season, the Panthers hold a 13-6 record at home.
ODU will look to extend its win streak to four in a row when it travels to Ashland for a GLIAC South clash on Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.
