FINDLAY, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball sophomore forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) has been named to the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference Second Team, while senior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) earned honorable mention honors from the conference on Wednesday night.
The Panthers (17-10, 12-8 G-MAC) are currently in Findlay for the 2018 G-MAC Tournament, and Varence and Williams were presented with their awards at the conference banquet Wednesday evening at the University of Findlay.
Varence leads ODU at 14.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game and has notched 11 double-doubles this season en route to being the first Panther named second team all-conference since Trent Weaver (Columbus, Ohio) earned second team All-GLIAC honors in 2016. Varence is just the third Panther in ODU's NCAA Division II era to be named second team all-conference, and currently ranks third in the G-MAC in rebounding. With 263 boards in 2017-18, Varence has pulled down the eighth-most rebounds for a season in Ohio Dominican men's basketball history.
Williams is the 24th Panther to score 1,000 points in a career and currently ranks 11th in scoring in school history with 1,262 points. The senior has made 77 starts as a Panther and ranks fourth in career three-point field goals (243), 16th in career field goals (403) and 14th in career free throws (199) in school history.
Ohio Dominican is in the midst of its best season since 2007-08 and enters the 2018 G-MAC Tournament having won five in a row and nine of its last 10 games. The Panthers face Malone tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in a G-MAC Tournament quarterfinal.
