ASHLAND, Ohio – A late Ashland rally downed Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team in a nonconference matchup at Ashland by a score of 66-60 Sunday afternoon.
Ashland was led by Rodrick Caldwell and Aaron Thompson who had 22 and 10 points, respectively.
ODU controlled the first half as they opened the contest with a 12-3 lead through the first seven minutes of the game.
With the score 21-19 in favor of the Panthers at the 4:07 mark, ODU finished the half with a 9-2 run with a pair of threes from Curry and a three from sophomore Matt King (Mason, Ohio) to go into the locker room with a 30-21 lead.
A three point shot from Hoyng to open the half gave ODU its largest lead of the game at 12 points.
Ashland then went on a 9-2 run to cut the Panther lead to five at 35-30 with 18:10 remaining.
ODU took a nine point lead at 50-41 on a Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) three at the 9:19 mark. Ashland then went on an 11-0 run to give the Eagles their first lead at 52-50 with 5:06 remaining; a lead they would not relinquish.
ODU tied the game at 52 on a pair of free throws from Varence but another Ashland run 14-6 Ashland run closed out the contest.
The Panthers shot just 39.3% from the floor while Ashland shot 40.4%.
The Panthers drop to 1-1 overall while Ashland advances to 2-0 in the early season.
ODU heads to the Cedarville shootout on Friday, November 16 to play Shawnee State with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
