COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team faces Walsh on Saturday, October 7 at 7 p.m. in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match and will dedicate the contest to former Panther defender, Brock Taylor.
Taylor passed away in May 2017 after an eight-year battle with type 1 diabetes. Starting in 59 matches during his Panther career, Taylor was a constant source of strength for the ODU men's soccer program.
"He gave everything he had," Ohio Dominican men's soccer head coach Willy Merrick said during an interview with Spectrum Sports on a story that aired to honor Taylor in August. "Being able to give back – that's what he wanted to do in the game of soccer, because he knew the game had given him so much."
Fans at the Brock Taylor Memorial Match will have the opportunity to give back as well. A silent auction and 50-50 draw will be held, with proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), whose mission is "accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications."
Additionally, donation opportunities will be possible at the game to benefit the JDRF and fight against type 1 diabetes.
