COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its fourth-straight win, Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team shut out Kentucky Wesleyan by a final tally of 2-0 on Thursday night at Panther Stadium and earned a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament in the process.
The four-match win streak marks the longest for ODU (6-8, 5-7 G-MAC) since the 2013 season, with the squad outscoring its opponents 10-2 during the span.
With 15 conference points, ODU clinches a conference tournament berth with two matches remaining in the regular season.
Ohio Dominican outshot KWC 20-7, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Junior Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Florida) scored for the seventh time this season and for the second-straight match, also picking up an assist. Sophomore Cameron Christian (Pataskala, Ohio) scored his second goal of the year in the win. Junior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) notched one assist and led ODU in shots (seven) and shots on goal (three).
After a scoreless first half, ODU got on the board in the 61st minute, when Christian scored from the close, middle portion of the box after a runout and assists from Barnes and Kasprzak, putting ODU in front 1-0.
Barnes put the lead out of reach from Kentucky Wesleyan in the 70th minute. After a failed clear attempt by KWC, Barnes controlled the ball and dribbled to his right, putting a strike to the back of the net to give Ohio Dominican a 2-0 lead.
ODU's defense limited KWC to just two shots on goal for the night, earning the 2-0 win.
Ohio Dominican hots Trevecca Nazarene this Saturday, October 21 at 3 p.m. on senior day at Panther Stadium before traveling to Findlay on Tuesday, October 24 to close the regular season.
