Men's Soccer Drops Contest with Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W. Va. – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team was defeated by a score of 4-1 at Davis & Elkins in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Nuttall Field.

With the loss, the Panthers go to 6-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the G-MAC while D&E advances to 5-6-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the conference.

The Panthers were outshot 9-4 in the half and in the 36th minute, Cesar Ghezzi of D&E put the Senators up 1-0 where the game would be after the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Senators advanced their lead to 3-0 with goals in the 56th and 73rd minute. Senior Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla.) notched his eighth goal of the year to cut the Senator lead to 3-1.

The Senators answered with a goal to start the 84th minute and advance the lead to 4-1 where the game would end.

The Panthers were outshot 15-11 in the contest and D&E also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Panther offense had six shots on goal to the Senators seven I the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Alec Mathew (Pataskala, Ohio) faced seven shots turning away three of them in all 90 minutes between the posts.

Ohio Dominican stays on the road as they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday, October 18 with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
