CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team clinched a home match-up in the Great Midwest Conference quarterfinal with a 2-1 win over Cedarville Tuesday evening in the regular season finale at the Yellow Jacket Soccer Complex.
The Panthers earn their second straight trip to the G-MAC quarterfinal round with the win today.
In a first half that saw Cedarville outshoot ODU 7-6, ODU was able to break through for the opening goal of the contest.
Senior Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio) was able to find the back of the net for his sixth goal of the year in the 4th minute. Just out of halftime, in the 48th minute, Kasprzak found fellow senior Jonathan Barnes (Winter Haven, Fla.) on a long through ball. Barnes got behind the Jacket backline and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one to put the Panthers up 2-0.
The Panther defense dominated the defensive half until the 82nd minute when Jonny Stephens flicked a header off a corner kick to make the score 2-1.
A pair of shots in the 90th minute from Cedarville were blocked as the Panther backline held strong late.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ian Crook (Cincinnati, Ohio) played all 90 minutes between the posts for the Panthers making three saves.
