COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team capitalized on a perfect, sunny afternoon to sweep visiting Lake Erie College 9-1, 8-4 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play to improve to 17-21 overall and 13-1 in the GLIAC.

In game one, the Storm put the first run on the board in an two-out RBI single up the middle, but the Panthers quickly picked up junior pitcher Rachael Stanzel (Angleton, Texas) in the bottom half, scoring eight runs on seven hits, highlighted by a two-run homer by junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, Ohio) to go up 8-1.

ODU tacked on its ninth run in the bottom of the third after a solo homerun by sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio), the first of her career.

Freshman Brooke Myers (Orlando, Fla.) came in to relieve Stanzel and didn't allow a hit as the Panthers went on to run rule Lake Erie.

Thomas led the Panthers offensively, going 2-for-3 from the plate with three RBI.

In game two, the Panthers picked up right where they left off, scoring four runs in the first inning. Sophomore Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) singled to right and then stole second. Senior Caitlin Jividen (Wheeling, W. Va.) advanced Fishel to third on an infield single. Jividen's took off towards second to draw the throw, which allowed Fishel to steal home and score. Jividen then advanced the third on a single by freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio). Sophomore Kelsey Albanese's (Westerville, Ohio) double to left field scored Jividen and junior Alex Cribari's (Lyndhurst, Ohio) single scored Hinton to give the Panthers the 4-0 lead.

ODU tacked on three more runs in the third inning after Hinton smacked an RBI double down the left field line, followed by an RBI double to left center by Albanese. Junior Brandis Fishel's (Gahanna, Ohio) groundout scored Albanese to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

Lake Erie closed the gap in the bottom of the third with four runs on four hits after a double by Hannah Francis. Elizabeth Karako doubled to left center and Hannah Shevenell single scored Francis. Darrien Yanek knocked in Karako and Shevenell after getting the go-ahead sign on a 3-0 count to hit a two out, three-RBI over the left field fence to cut the lead 7-4.

ODU added a run in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead, and hung onto the lead to take game two.

Thomas was 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI while Albanese added two hits and two RBI and Cribari went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Ohio Dominican will host Walsh on Sunday, April 13 for a GLIAC doubleheader starting at noon. The game is also dedicated as the Friends of Jaclyn and Alumni Game.
