FINDLAY, OH – On a cold and cloudy day, Ohio Dominican's bats continued to stay hot, but it was not enough, as the softball team dropped its opening game of the GLIAC tournament to the University of Findlay, 16-11 on Friday.

With the loss, the Panthers drop to the consolation bracket and will play Northwood at approximately 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.

With the 11 runs, the Panthers have now scored double digit runs in each of their last three games. Sophomore Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, OH) led the charge offensively for the Panthers going 3-for-4 with five RBI. Junior Taylor Thomas (Bellville, OH) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, OH) also went 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs scored. Junior Brier Sanner (Hartville, OH) added two hits in four at bats.

The Oilers struck first scoring two runs on three hits in the top of the first. However, the Panthers were able to stay composed at the plate in the bottom half, putting two runners on base and scoring both on Albanese's single to center.

The tie was short-lived though, as Findlay would come back to score five runs in the top half of the second inning, with all five runs for the Oilers coming with two outs.

The Panthers then used the fourth inning to work themselves back into the game. Seeds started the inning with a double to right center field and then scored on a single by Alex Cribari (Lyndhurst, OH). After three walks issued to Panther batters, Cribari was able to safely advance home to add the second run of the inning.

With the bases still loaded, freshman Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, OH) hit a two run single through the right side, to pull the Panthers within one. Albanese continued the inning with a three run home run to give the Panthers their first lead of the game, 9-7.

The first nine Panther runs came with two outs.

Again, the Oilers answered the Panther rally with one of their own, as Megan Turner hit a two run homer to right center field to tie the game, 9-9 in the top of the fifth inning. Then in the top half of the sixth inning, Jackie Messersmith added another home run for the Oilers with a solo shot to left field to give the Oilers their third lead of the game, 10-9.

Albanese continued to be clutch for the Panthers, as her one out single, through the left side, in the bottom half of the sixth inning tied up the game 10-10. With the bases loaded, Sanner hit a slow dribbler down the first base line which the Oilers elected to get the force out at the plate, but then they overthrew the first baseman, which scored Seeds from second to give the Panthers an 11-10 lead going into the seventh inning.

With the bases loaded in the top half of the seventh inning, Courtney Dwyer hit a bases clearing triple to give the Oilers the lead again, 13-11. The Oilers added three more runs to cap off a six run inning.

ODU was unable to threaten in the bottom of the inning.
