FINDLAY, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team's magical GLIAC conference tournament run came to an end at the hands of Wayne State as the Panthers finished as the runner-up after falling to the Warriors 9-3 in the Championship Game.
GLIAC Freshman of the Year Allie Hinton (Newcomerstown, Ohio) gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead after blasting her second homerun of the tournament 220 feet to straightaway center in the bottom of the second inning.
The Warriors came back in the top of the third in a big way to take a 5-1 lead. Emily Bryce hit a two-out, two-RBI double to right center and Julie Ingratta's single scored Bryce. Jade McGarr homered to left center to tack on the fourth and fifth runs for the Warriors.
Wayne State extended its lead with a three run fifth inning. The Warriors scored their three runs on five hits to lead the Panthers 8-1. The Warriors extended the lead 9-1 in the sixth on an Ingratta RBI single.
The Panthers got two runs back to cut into the lead in the sixth thanks to a Hinton single up the middle and an RBI double by junior Kelsey Seeds (Westerville, Ohio).
Down to their last three outs in the bottom of the seventh and trailing 9-3, sophomore Lizzy Weber (Canton, Ohio) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. Pinch hitter freshman Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisc.) lined a shot to the right side of the infield but the Warriors second baseman Ingratta was there to make a spectacular grab and double up Weber to seal their victory.
