Softball Tops Bellarmine And McKendree On Final Day Of Music City Invitational

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — Ohio Dominican's softball team earned a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine and defeated McKendree by a final score of 9-1 in six innings on Sunday at the Music City Invitational.

ODU (3-3, 0-0 GLIAC) recorded 25 hits in its two contests on Sunday and held Bellarmine and McKendree to a combined two runs on just five hits.

The Panthers earned a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine in game one of the day. ODU finished with 11 hits compared to just four hits for the Knights, also committing zero errors for the contest.

Freshman Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) earned the first win of her collegiate career, going 5.2 innings in the circle and allowing just one run on four hits. Junior Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up the save, pitching 1.1 innings of hit-free softball.

Offensively, junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) went 3-for-4. Senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) finished 2-for-3 with one RBI, and sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) and freshman Nikki Ennis (Bloomington, Indiana) each went 1-for-3 with one RBI for Ohio Dominican.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. An RBI single by Wallace scored Kline, getting ODU on the board, 1-0. Then with two outs, Ennis recorded an RBI single that scored Wallace to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage through one.

Mix added to Ohio Dominican's lead in the bottom of the third, homering for the second time this season to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead through three innings.

Bellarmine would cut into the Panther lead in the top of the sixth after scoring on a wild pitch, but Miller was able to retire all four batters that she faced, earning the save and win for Ohio Dominican, 3-1.

Against McKendree, ODU scored five runs in the third inning to key a 9-1 victory over the Bearcats.

The Panthers recorded 14 hits in the contest and limited McKendree to one run on just one hit.

Sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) went all six innings in the circle for the Panthers, allowing just one run on one hit for the day. Wallace went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including one home run. Kline went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, her third thus far on the season. Junior Jordan Nichols (Peotone, Illinois) went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) finished 2-for-4, while Mix and senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) each recorded one hit and one RBI for the Panthers.

ODU took an early lead in the top of the first, when a single by Nichols scored Kline to give ODU a 1-0 advantage.

After McKendree scored one run in the bottom of the first to tie the contest at 1-1, the Panthers opened up the scoring in the top of the third. A double down the right field line by Wallace scored Sutter and Kline to give ODU a 3-1 lead. Later in the inning, Murdoch singled to right field to score Mix and Wallace and increase the Panther advantage to 5-1. Lamping singled down the right field line to score freshman Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) in the next at bat, and Ohio Dominican took a 6-1 lead through three innings. Three additional runs in the fourth and sixth innings added to the Panther lead, and ODU earned its third victory of 2017, 9-1.

The Panthers will look to build off a two-game winning streak when they travel to Southern Indiana next weekend to compete in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament.
