Softball Splits At Bellarmine, Earns 10-6 Victory In Game Two Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ohio Dominican's softball team defeated Bellarmine by a final score of 10-6 in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday in Louisville and fell to the Knights by a final margin of 5-2 in the first contest of the day.

Holding a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning of game two with one out and the bases loaded, Ohio Dominican freshman Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) doubled down the left field line to score junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio), junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) and freshman Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio), increasing the Panther advantage to 10-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) closed the door on the Knights comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, Murdoch induced a double play that saw just one Knight score to cut the deficit to 10-6. But with two outs in the next at bat, Murdoch forced a fly out to left field to end the game and earn the victory for ODU, 10-6.

Murdoch went 3-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate, also pitching the final 1.2 innings for the Panthers. Sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) went 3-for-4 in the contest. Kline finished 2-for-5 with one RBI, while Slider finished with a three RBI double for Ohio Dominican.

The Panthers (6-8, 0-0 GLIAC) dropped a 5-2 contest in game one of the day to Bellarmine. ODU recorded nine hits compared to just four hits for the Knights.

Sutter finished 3-for-3 in the contest. Kline went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. Farmer, senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin) and junior Jordan Nichols (Peotone, Illinois) each recorded one hit for the Panthers.

Ohio Dominican trailed 5-0 heading into the top of the third, but sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) recorded a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to cut ODU's deficit to 5-1. In the top of the fifth, Wallace recorded an RBI double that scored Kline, cutting Bellarmine's lead to just 5-2.

But the Knights defense held strong for the remainder of the game to earn the 5-2 victory.

ODU will look forward to its trip to Clermont, Florida next week to compete in the NTC Spring Games, facing Kutztown and Seton Hill in its next contests on Sunday, March 12.
