Softball Prepares To Host Saginaw Valley, Northwood In GLIAC Contests

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's softball team will host Saginaw Valley on Saturday and will face Northwood on Sunday in GLIAC contests at Panther Field.

ODU will take on SVSU on Saturday in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and will face Northwood while also celebrating Friends of Jaclyn Day on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. in a pair of conference clashes. 

About Ohio Dominican

The Panthers (16-14, 3-1 GLIAC) swept Grand Valley State this past Friday and split with Ferris State on Saturday to begin GLIAC play with a 3-1 mark, their best start to GLIAC competition since 2014. ODU currently sits second in the GLIAC, trailing just Saginaw Valley (15-6, 4-0 GLIAC) in the conference standings. The Panthers also boast the second-most overall wins in the conference at 16 victories on the season.

ODU has seen strong contributions in the batter's box from senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin), who is hitting a career-high .416 this season, ranking seventh in the GLIAC in batting average while leading Ohio Dominican at the plate. Wallace is tied for second in the conference in RBIs at 25 and currently boasts a hit streak of eight-consecutive games, going 14-for-28 at the plate with seven RBIs during the span. Wallace has recorded two hits or more in 14 games this year while also hitting two home runs.

Junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) leads the GLIAC in stolen bases with 17. Kline ranks eighth in the GLIAC in batting average (.407) and ranks in a tie for second in the conference in triples with three thus far.

Sophomore pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) leads the Panthers in the circle, ranking eighth in the conference in ERA at 2.35 while pitching the third-most innings in the GLIAC (95.1 innings pitched). Lamping is tied for third in the conference with seven wins and has also picked up two saves.

About Saginaw Valley

The Cardinals (15-6, 4-0 GLIAC) are currently in first place in the GLIAC and head into the weekend riding a six-game winning streak. SVSU faces Urbana in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday before making the trip to Columbus to take on the Panthers.

Saginaw Valley ranks second in the conference in batting average (.326) and has hit a conference-best 23 home runs thus far.

Leading the way for SVSU are Meredith Rousse and Evy Lobdell. Rousse ranks first on the squad and fifth in the GLIAC in batting average at .435, while Lobdell sits just behind in batting average at .429. Senior pitcher Samantha Willman leads the Cardinals in innings pitched at 65.2 with a 2.56 ERA, while junior pitcher Anna Conrad leads the team and ranks fourth in the GLIAC in ERA at 1.48, pitching 42.2 innings this season.

 About Northwood

The Timberwolves (12-14, 3-1 GLIAC) swept Walsh on Friday and split with Lake Erie on Saturday to start GLIAC action with a 3-1 mark.

NU ranks 12th in the conference in team ERA (5.23) but is third in the GLIAC in RBIs at 122 and ranks third in the conference in on base percentage at .368.

Junior Sydni Pauley ranks in a tie for second in the GLIAC in RBIs with Wallace at 25 on the season. She boasts a .338 batting average with 24 hits. Sophomore Abby Joseph posts an average of .340 at the plate with five doubles.

Looking Ahead

Following its contests with SVSU and Northwood, Ohio Dominican will travel to Walsh for a GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 and head to Painesville for GLIAC tilts with Lake Erie on Sunday, April 9.
