Softball Hits The Road For GLIAC Games Against Walsh, Lake Erie

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Coming off a 4-3 win over Northwood in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2, Ohio Dominican's softball team readies for weekend visits to Northeast Ohio with GLIAC doubleheader contests against Walsh on Saturday and Lake Erie on Sunday.

The Panthers (17-17, 4-4 GLIAC) will take on the Walsh Cavaliers on Saturday in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and will play two conference contests at Lake Erie on Sunday, with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.

About Ohio Dominican

With eight GLIAC games in the books thus far in 2017, ODU ranks in a tie for third in the conference in stolen bases (41), fourth in walks (71), fourth in home runs (11) and fourth in hits (250).

Junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) leads the GLIAC in stolen bases with 21 on the season and sits sixth in batting average at .422. Kline currently boasts a hitting streak of eight-straight games and is 7-for-11 with four stolen bases in her last three contests. She is tied for second in the GLIAC in triples with two this year and boasts 20 multi-hit games this year.

Ranking second on the squad in batting average is senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin), who is batting a career-high .412 this season with 28 RBIs and three home runs. Wallace's 28 RBIs ranks third in the GLIAC and she also ranks in a tie for ninth in the conference in doubles with eight. The senior boasts a hitting streak of 12-consecutive games entering the weekend.

Junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) is batting .319 this season with nine walks. Sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) leads the squad in home runs with four this season and ranks second on the team in RBIs with 15.

Sophomore pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) leads the team in ERA at 2.97 while pitching 106.0 innings, third-most in the GLIAC. Freshman pitcher Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) ranks second on the squad in ERA at 3.05 while also going 7-for-17 at the plate in seven contests.

About Walsh

The Cavaliers (7-20, 0-6 GLIAC) have lost eight-straight entering Saturday's games against Ohio Dominican.

Walsh ranks ninth in team ERA (4.12) and sits last in the GLIAC in batting average (.239).

WU is led by sophomore Kesley Putman, who leads the squad in batting average at .329 with a team-high 24 hits. Junior pitcher Olivia Pifer leads the Cavs in ERA (2.33) and innings pitched (93.0).

About Lake Erie

The Storm (7-13, 3-5 GLIAC) picked up two wins over Tiffin on Sunday, April 2 by final scores of 6-5 and 4-2.

Lake Erie ranks seventh in the conference in team batting average at .286 and is 10th in team ERA at 4.32.

Junior Marissa Rizzo leads the Storm and ranks in a tie for seventh in the GLIAC in batting average (.417) while also boasting seven stolen bases.

Looking Ahead

Following games at Walsh and Lake Erie, ODU will travel to Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday, April 11 for a non-conference doubleheader before returning home to host Tiffin and Findlay in GLIAC clashes at Panther Field on Thursday, April 13 and Saturday, April 15.
