COLUMBUS, Ohio — A two-game sweep of Urbana by Ohio Dominican's softball team on Thursday afternoon earned the 11th and 12-consecutive wins for the program, as the Panthers topped the Blue Knights by final marks of 15-0 (5 innings) and 11-2 (5 innings) at Panther Field.
The win streak now stands at the longest point for ODU (22-15, 8-2) since the 2005 squad reeled off 12-straight. Ohio Dominican is now 10-0 in the month of April and has defeated its last six opponents by a combined margin of 99-12.
Going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate on the day was sophomore Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio), who recorded four RBIs and two doubles. She also earned the win in the circle in game two, going four innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out three.
In game one, ODU used 16 hits to score 15 runs, marking the second time the Panthers have tallied 15 runs or more in a single game this season. Senior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) finished 2-for-4, tallying two RBIs. Junior Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) went 2-for-3 at the plate, recording one RBI for the contest.
Recording her first career home run was freshman Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio), who hit a two-run shot to center to notch her first collegiate long ball. Freshmen Cori Ladanyi (Ludlow, Kentucky), Haley Goodburn (Dublin, Ohio) and Allison Fathbruckner (Delaware, Ohio) all notched their first hits as Panthers.
Kline started things off for Ohio Dominican with a lead-off double to begin the contest. She stole third, then a single to right center by Mix scored Kline and gave ODU an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Barber singled up the middle to bring Mix and sophomore Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) home and increase the advantage to 3-0.
With a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third, Ohio Dominican scored seven runs in an offensive outburst to take a 10-0 lead through three. With the score at 4-0, Bales sent a blast to right center, scoring Barber to make it 6-0 Panthers. Four more ODU runs crossed the plate before the inning was over, giving the Panthers complete control of game one.
Junior pitcher Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) earned her ninth win of the year, allowing just three hits in three innings of work. Farmer closed the game in the circle, pitching two innings and giving up just one hit to shut the door on the Blue Knights.
Urbana jumped out to a 2-1 lead in game two, but the Panthers used seven runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-2 lead. With the score at 6-2 with two outs, freshman Raemon Meents (Downers Grove, Illinois) homered to left, also scoring Kline to push the advantage to 8-2. ODU scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, and Farmer once again closed the contest to earn the 22nd win of 2018 for the Panthers.
Kline, Barber and sophomore Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) all notched two hits in the contest. Barber picked up her 10th win in the circle, while Kline stole her 26th base of the season and 132nd for her career.
ODU resumes conference play on Friday with a home doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Panther Field.
