INDIANAPOLIS — Following a weekend in which she allowed just four hits in two games, Ohio Dominican softball junior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) was named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Lamping, who ranks third in the conference in ERA at 1.81, pitched 12.0 innings in wins over Ursuline and Lake Erie this weekend. In the win over Ursuline, Lamping allowed just two earned runs on two hits and struck out four en route to a 10-2 (5 innings) victory over the Arrows to earn the 17th-straight win for the Panthers.
The 1-0 win over Lake Erie on Sunday in game one of the doubleheader extended Ohio Dominican's win streak to 19 games, which was the most in NCAA Division II at the time. Lamping and the Panther defense played exceptionally well in the seventh shutout win of the year for ODU. Allowing just two hits for the contest, Lamping struck out six and walked just one batter to push the Panthers to victory.
Winners of 19 of their last 20, the Panthers (29-16, 15-3 G-MAC) currently sit in third place in the Great Midwest. With just one week left in the regular season, ODU is in the hunt for a regular season conference crown and has now picked up four of the last six G-MAC player or pitcher of the week awards.
The Panthers are scheduled to host Ohio Valley on Wednesday before hosting Hillsdale and Findlay this weekend.
