MARIETTA, Ohio — In its first indoor meet of the 2017-18 season, Ohio Dominican's track and field team set four indoor records and saw both the men and women earn second place team finishes at the Marietta College First Glimpse on Saturday at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
Sixteen, top five finishes powered the men's squad to second place with a team total of 120 points, while the women's team saw 12 student-athletes earn top five finishes and notched 108 points to earn second place honors.
The women were led in the field by sophomore Megan Tamasovich (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and freshman Zoie Fisher (West Jefferson, Ohio), who each set school records. Tamasovich took first place in the women's high jump and finished with a women's indoor record jump for ODU of 1.57 meters, also leading Ohio Dominican in the women's 400 with a time of 1:09.48. Fisher also established a school record for ODU in the women's triple jump with a distance of 9.64 meters. She is the first ODU women's track and field student-athlete to compete in the triple jump in program history.
The Panthers swept top honors in the women's weight throw and shot put, with Sophomore Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio) throwing a distance of 13.83 meters in the weight throw and Pasha Rivers taking first place in the shot put with a throw of 11.75 meters.
Sophomore Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) established a women's indoor school record in the first 55 meter dash attempted for ODU, finishing in 7.64 seconds to take third place in the event. Barber also took second place in the women's 200, crossing the finish line in 27.06.
The men saw senior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) set the men's indoor school record in the 55 meter dash, taking sixth place in the event in 6.80 seconds. The men's squad realized two first place finishes, with senior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) taking top honors in the men's 1,000 with a run of 2:43.40, and he was also part of the men's 4x400 meter relay team along with freshman Donovan Brefford (Columbus, Ohio), sophomore Alec Mueller (Minerva, Ohio) and freshman Nick Middlesworth (Marion, Ohio) to earn a first place finish with a time of 3:29.40. Mueller earned a second place finish in the men's 500 with a run of 1:10.40. Sophomore Lance Warren (Columbus, Ohio) also notched a second place finish, crossing the finish line in 37.74 in the men's 300 meter run.
The men were led in the field by junior Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio), who finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.40 meters and third in the shot put with a throw of 13.43 meters. Freshman Ben Cook (Mount Vernon, Ohio) finished second in the shot put in his first event as a Panther, recording a distance of 13.57 meters.
Ohio Dominican will be back in action in 2018 when the squad heads to Westerville for the Otterbein Invitational on January 13.
