Track & Field Notches Three Top 10 Finishes At YSU College Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's track and field team recorded three top 10 finishes in competition at the YSU College Invitational on Friday at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The Panthers were led by senior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), who finished sixth out of 69 competitors in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.30. Through three meets this indoor season, Carroll has finished in the top 10 in all his events.

Another strong finish for the men came in the 4x400 meter relay. Carroll, freshman Amir Metts (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) and freshman Nick Middlesworth (Marion, Ohio) led the Panthers to a ninth place finish out of 30 competing teams with a time of 3:25.28. Metts and Bass also earned top 30 finishes in the men's 400. Metts took 20th with a run of 50.66, while Bass' time of 52.02 was good enough for 26th out of 67.

Middlesworth notched a top 10 finish for the Panthers in the men's 60 meter dash, placing 10th out of 44 competitors with a sprint of 7.07. Senior Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) also finished strong in the event, placing 17th after crossing the finish line in 7.14.

In the men's 5000, senior Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) finished with a time of 16:34.90 to finish 17th out of 32 competitors, marking the third, top 20 finish of the indoor season for Ellis.

Junior Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) led the ODU men's throwers in the shot put and weight throw. Seymour placed 17th out of 58 in the shot put with a throw of 13.67 meters and notched a distance of 12.03 meters in the weight throw.

In the field for the women, freshman Pasha Rivers (Dublin, Ohio) placed 23rd out of 63 in the shot put, throwing 11.40 meters, and also recorded a weight throw of 11.38 meters to place 35th out of 57.  

Sophomore Megan Tamasovich (Canal Winchester, Ohio) followed up a school-record breaking performance in the women's high jump with a strong mark of 1.56 meters to place 11th out of 23 competitors.

In the women's 200, sophomores Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) both finished in the top half of the field. Out of 88 competitors, Barber took 34th with a time of 27.27, while Stevens finished in 27.64 to come in at 39th.

Ohio Dominican will head to Findlay next weekend for the Findlay Invitational, which will span Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.
