COLUMBUS, Ohio — In its third meet of the 2018 spring season, Ohio Dominican's track and field team will compete in the Hilltopper Relays Friday, April 6, as well as Saturday, April 7 on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Field events are scheduled to begin Friday at 1 p.m. with the men's and women's pole vault. Running events will start the following day at 12 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relay.
ODU is coming off a strong performance at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open at Cedarville University this past Saturday. Overall, the ODU women finished in ninth place with 32.50 points, while the men's squad earned sixth place out of 10 competing teams with 49.50 points.
On the men's side, Senior Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), notched a first place finish in the 800 with a time of 1:55.31. Carroll also took second place out of 46 in the men's 1500 with a mark of 4:08.57, an outdoor personal best. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio), Carroll, Amir Metts (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio) captured first place with a time of 3:27.04.
Also scoring well from the men's squad was Alex Botello (Hilliard, Ohio), who notched a final mark of 4.16 meters in the pole vault. It earned Botello a top five finish and was just .03 meters away from breaking the men's outdoor school record in the event. Also in the field for the men, Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) recorded a top 10 finish with a throw of 14.68 meters in the shot put to earn seventh place out of 30 throwers. He also led the Panthers in the discus with a mark of 37.00 meters and finished in the top 10 of the field in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.36 meters.
For the women, Megan Tamasovich (Canal Winchester, Ohio) built on her outdoor school record in the women's high jump, recording a top mark of 1.63 meters to earn first place Saturday. She already holds the indoor school record with a jump of 1.64 meters. Sophomore Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finished fifth in both the women's 100 and 200 while achieving her best times in both events. In the 100, she crossed the finish line in 12.67, and finished in 26.07 in the 200. Barber was also part of the women's 4x100 meter relay team that took fifth place, along with Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio), Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio) and Dominique Washington (Gahanna, Ohio). The squad finished with an outdoor season best time of 50.82. Also finishing well was the women's 4x400 team, which took third in a season best mark of 4:21.92.
A full schedule of events and meet information for the Hilltopper Relays can be found here, and following competition in the event, ODU will look ahead to the Walsh Invitational on Friday, April 13, and April 14 at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
