COLUMBUS, Ohio — A pair of meets in the Greater Columbus area will see Ohio Dominican's track and field team go to the Otterbein Twilight Invitational Friday before competing in the Jesse Owens Classic Saturday.
The Otterbein Twilight Invitational will begin with the women's 10k at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. This Saturday, the Jesse Owens Classic will start at 10:30 a.m. with the women's shot put.
These two meets will mark the fifth and sixth outdoor competitions of 2018 for ODU. The Panthers are coming off a strong weekend at the Walsh Invitational, where Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) and Alex Botello (Hilliard, Ohio) set school records. Carroll finished the men's 800 at the Walsh Invitational in school and meet record time, while Botello recorded the best pole vault in ODU track & field history. Carroll ran a time of 1:53.19 to break his own outdoor school record and also the Walsh Invitational record in the event to finish in first place in the 800 for the second time this outdoor season. Botello topped the school record in the men's pole vault. It earned him 10th place out of 24 competitors overall and is the fifth school record this outdoor season for the Panthers.
Also finishing strong for the Panthers on Friday was Sophomore Amir Metts (Cincinnati, Ohio), who took second place in the men's 400 in 49.35.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Lance Warren (Memphis, Tennessee), Brandon, Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio)and Metts finished with the fastest men's 4x100 time of the season for Ohio Dominican with a mark of 42.47.
In the field for the men, Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) took third place in the shot put, throwing a distance of 14.78 meters.
For the women, Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finished 10th out of 48 in the 100 after crossing the finish line in 12.69. The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Zoie Fisher (West Jefferson, Ohio), Patricia Barreto (Findlay, Ohio), Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) and Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio) recorded a season best time, falling just shy .03 of breaking the outdoor school record, finishing in 49.28.
Following competition at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational and the Jesse Owens Classic, the Panthers will compete in the Big Red Invitational on Friday, April 27.
