Track & Field Notches 11 First Place Finishes, Three School Records At Big Red Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's track & field team saw student-athletes record top finishes in 11 events and the squad also realized three outdoor school records at the Big Red Invitational at Denison University Friday night.

Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio), Zoie Fisher (West Jefferson, Ohio) and the women's 4x100 relay team of Dominique Washington (Gahanna, Ohio), Bryanna Barber (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), Shaunqueza Stevens (Dublin, Ohio) and Imani Stepney (Columbus, Ohio) all recorded outdoor school records.

Carroll used a time of 48.37 to take first place in the men's 400 and set the school record in the event. It marks his 13th ODU track & field record and he's now tallied three school records in the last two meets, breaking the outdoor 800 and 1500 school marks last week at Otterbein. Carroll finished in first place in two other events on Friday, taking top honors in the men's 800 at 1:54.23, and was part of the 4x400 team along with Amir Metts (Cincinnati, Ohio), Omar Jalloh (Pataskala, Ohio) and Draven Bass (Circleville, Ohio) that took first in 3:19.93. The ODU men saw three of the top six performers in the 800, with Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) finishing third at 1:57.96, and Bobby Bogantz (Sunbury, Ohio) crossing the finish line in 1:58.65 to take sixth. Metts also finished in the top two in the 400 along with Carroll, notching a time of 49.03.

With a personal best triple jump of 9.88 meters, Fisher improved on her women's outdoor school record in the event and took second place overall. She also recorded a top three finish in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 25.37 meters.

Washington, Barber, Stevens and Stepney took top honors in the women's 4x100 and finished with the fastest time in school history. The squad established a program-best time of 49.10.

Barber was spectacular on the day, also finishing first in the 400 hurdles at 1:08.93 and notching the fastest sprint of the day for the women, taking top honors in the 100 meter dash after a time of 12.71.

The men's 4x100 team also finished first, with Brandon, Avery Sumpter (Lima, Ohio), Bass and Metts combining for a time of 42.23.  

Cam Brandon (Cleveland, Ohio) took first place in the men's 100 hurdles with a mark of 15.36. Bass was right there as well, finishing second in 15.57.

In the field for the men, Clayton Seymour (Ashville, Ohio) notched a top five finish in the men's discus throw, using a distance of 43.87 to place fifth out of 14. He also led the Panthers in the shot put, taking third place at 14.63 meters. Ben Cook (Mount Vernon, Ohio) also picked up a top five finish in the shot put, taking fifth with a top throw of 13.16 meters.

Isaiah Smith (Logan, Ohio) helped the Panthers, along with Fisher on the women's side, to sweep the triple jump. Smith's mark of 11.73 meters earned first place in the event and the top distance of the season for the Ohio Dominican men.

Throwing the best shot put distance of the season for the ODU women was Pasha Rivers (Dublin, Ohio), who recorded a mark of 11.16 meters to place second in the event.

Also recording a top five finish in a discus event was Emma Barth (Dayton, Ohio). She placed fourth with a top throw of 36.04 meters.

Ohio Dominican looks forward to competition in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships at Hillsdale College, which spans Thursday, May 3 – Saturday, May 5.
