Women's Basketball Projected Fifth In GLIAC South

BAY CITY, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team was projected to finish fifth in the GLIAC South Division in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.

The Panthers had two players selected as preseason Second Team All-GLIAC picks in senior forward Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior forward Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio). Scherpenberg averaged 11.5 points per game and 9.8 boards per contest, while Rittinger averaged 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

ODU finished with an 11-17 record last year (8-14 GLIAC). Despite the graduation of Kacee Hockenberry, a First Team All-GLIAC pick, ODU returns 11 letterwinners and five players with starting experience.

Joining Rittinger and Scherpenberg in the frontcourt is junior Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.), who averaged 6.1 points per game and made 14 starts, along with sophomore Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) and junior Lindsey Blanford (Xenia, Ohio).

The backcourt is led by junior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio), who scored 7.5 points per game and started all 28 games last year. Senior Rachael Torey (Sterling Heights, Mich.) returns, as does juniors Kayla Cook (Westerville, Ohio) and Tori Beth Leader (West Portsmouth, Ohio). Sophomores Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) and Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) also played over 10 minutes per game last season.

The Panthers begin their season at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at Alderson-Broaddus in the GLIAC-GMAC Crossover.
