Women's Basketball Rolls To 82-35 Season Opening Win

ASHLAND, Ohio – A decided rebounding advantage and an efficient transition offense propelled Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team to an 82-35 win over Alderson Broaddus in the GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover on Friday afternoon at Ashland.

ODU held a commanding 60-26 edge in rebounding, pulling down 26 offensive rebounds, and the Panthers had a 14-0 cushion in fast break points. The Panthers turned 25 AB turnovers into 36 points and had a 38-10 advantage in points in the paint as well.

The Panthers never trailed and held AB to 19 points over the final 30 minutes of the game, limiting the Battlers to 12-of-53 (22.6 percent) shooting overall for the game.

The 47 point margin of victory is the largest for ODU since defeating Indiana Tech by 49 (95-46) on Nov. 17, 2007. The 35 points allowed are the fewest in a game since ODU defeated Carlow 57-29 on Nov. 20, 2007. The 60 rebounds were the most since the Panthers had 69 against Olivet Nazarene in a 115-111 overtime win on Dec. 30, 2009.

Junior Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) scored a career-high 18 points. She hit all four of her three point attempts, tying a personal-best, and also went 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

Senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) added 16 points and three steals and senior Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) finished with 11 points. Freshman Jessica Boerger (Fort Loramie, Ohio) snared 14 rebounds and senior Lindsey Blanford (Xenia, Ohio) had career highs with 11 rebounds and five assists as well.

The Panthers jumped to an 8-1 lead, with Bates scoring the first six points, and used a 12-3 run later in the quarter to stretch the lead to double figures, where it remained the rest of the game. ODU led 41-23 at halftime and 60-30 at the end of three quarters before taking the win by 47 points.

For the game, ODU shot 28-of-70 (40.0 percent) from the field and went 18-of-20 (90.0 percent) from the free throw line.

Junior Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) came off the bench to score eight points, senior Kayla Cook (Westerville, Ohio), Blanford and junior Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) each tallied seven points, and sophomore Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) grabbed five rebounds.

Ohio Dominican will take on Cedarville at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ashland to conclude play in the GLIAC/G-MAC Crossover.
