COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team dropped a 69-61 decision to visiting Walsh in G-MAC action on Saturday in Alumni Hall.
Sophomore Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) scored 15 points and pulled down eight boards, senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) scored 12 points and junior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) added 10 with five assists.
The Panthers (11-10, 8-7 G-MAC) held Walsh (15-6, 11-4 G-MAC) to 39 percent shooting (23-of-59), but managed to shoot just 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) themselves in the setback.
ODU fell behind 9-2 just over four minutes into the game, but outscored Walsh 15-7 to close the opening period to take a 17-16 lead. Overly assisted on a triple to Fisher, then Overly knocked down a trey in the waning seconds of the quarter on a feed from Fisher to take the lead.
The Panthers stayed sharp from behind the arc early in the second as junior Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) knocked down two triples in the opening two and a half minutes, and freshman Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) hit another triple to bump the lead to 28-20 at the 6:44 mark.
However, ODU scored just two points for the rest of the period and took a 30-27 lead into the locker room.
Tied at 31 early in the third, Walsh went on a 16-3 run to go in front 47-34 with 3:34 to play in the period. The Cavaliers would outscore ODU 25-12 in the quarter, shooting 55.6 percent to 23.1 percent for the Panthers, and took 52-42 lead into the fourth.
The Panthers cut it to 52-47 on a triple by Troyer and a layup by sophomore Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio), but that was as close as ODU would get down the stretch.
Clark scored nine points with three assists and Fox finished with seven points, while freshman Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) pulled down five boards.
The Panthers take on Lake Erie at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Painesville.
