COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team earned its sixth shutout victory of 2017 in a 3-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday night at Panther Stadium.
ODU (11-4-1, 9-2-1 G-MAC) outshot KWC 35-11 and held a commanding 15-1 shot on goal advantage. Ohio Dominican also held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks over Kentucky Wesleyan.
In its last two matches, Ohio Dominican boasts advantages of 57-16 in shots and 26-1 in shots on goal over its opponents.
Senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) scored two goals in the match and now boasts 10 scores for the season, most on the team. Also notching a goal for ODU was sophomore Becca Gordon (Johnstown, Ohio), who scored for the fourth time on the season. Freshmen Lindsay Buten (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) each recorded assists in the win.
Bates opened the scoring for Ohio Dominican in the 29th minute, scoring from the close left wing off a corner kick from Buck to put ODU in front, 1-0.
Less than two minutes later, Bates found the back of the net for the second time on the night. Buten dribbled the ball to the close left wing, finding Bates in scoring position in the middle of the box. Bates found the goal for the second time on the night, increasing the Ohio Dominican advantage to 2-0.
Gordon put the finishing touches on the scoring for ODU in the 50th minute. A clear attempt by KWC found Gordon, who controlled the ball and scored from the left wing on a shot to the top right corner of the net, extending the Ohio Dominican lead to 3-0.
ODU's defense held firm in the 3-0 shutout, allowing just one shot on goal for the match.
The next contest for ODU comes this Saturday at 12 p.m. when the squad hosts Trevecca Nazarene on senior day at Panther Stadium.
