COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene on senior day at Panther Stadium Saturday to win its third-straight match.
The Panthers (12-4-1, 10-2-1 G-MAC) maintain second place in the Great Midwest with 31 conference points following the win. ODU will close the regular season on Tuesday at Findlay before hosting a Great Midwest Tournament quarterfinal match in Columbus on Saturday, October 28.
Ohio Dominican held a 17-7 shot advantage over the Trojans and 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
Leading the way for ODU over TNU was senior Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio), scoring two goals to bring her total to 12 for the season. Bates has scored six goals in her last four matches and notched four in wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca this week.
ODU took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute, when a pass by Atkinson from just outside the 18 found Bates in the middle of the box. Bates headed it in to give the Panthers a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Panthers struck early in the second half to increase their lead to 2-0. Bates scored again, this time from the close left wing on assists from Renius and Buck to increase the ODU advantage to 2-0.
Trevecca scored on a penalty kick goal in the 89th minute, but the Trojans could not find the equalizer, falling 2-1.
Ohio Dominican looks to finish the regular season strong on Tuesday at Findlay before preparing for postseason play.
