FINDLAY, Ohio — With a season-high seven goals including five scores in the first half, Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team earned its fourth-straight victory with a 7-0 win at Findlay on Tuesday afternoon in the final regular season match of the 2017 season for the squad.
The Panthers (13-4-1, 11-2-1 G-MAC) have locked up the two-seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament and will host a seven-seed TBA at Panther Stadium on Saturday, October 28 in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
The seven goals for Ohio Dominican are the most since a 13-0 win over Salem International on September 11, 2016 and the victory marks the largest margin of victory in a conference match for the program in its NCAA Division II era. The seven goals for the Panthers rank in a tie for the fifth most goals scored in a match in program history.
Leading the way for ODU was sophomore Becca Gordon (Johnstown, Ohio), who recorded the 17th hat trick in ODUWS history and the third in 2017. Gordon joins seniors Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) and Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) as Panthers with three goals in a match this season. Gordon also notched an assist in the contest to record a season-high for points in a match by a Panther this season with seven.
Bates tallied one goal and a season-high two assists in the win after being named Great Midwest offensive player of the week following last week's victories over Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene. Bates has scored or assisted on Panther goals in seven of her last eight matches and has found the back of the net in each of the last five contests for the squad.
Junior Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) tallied one goal and one assist to record her career-high for points in a match with three. Junior Anita Ferguson (Columbus, Ohio) scored her first goal of the season and third of her career. Junior defender Abby Tamm (Fairfield Township, Ohio) notched the second goal of her career, while junior Allie Atkinson (Ontario, Ohio) recorded her fourth assist of the season.
Gordon started the flurry of goals in the second minute, beating the Findlay keeper to the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 10th minute, D'Isidoro increased the Panther lead to 2-0 on an assist from Gordon, putting the ball to the left side of the net for a two-score advantage. Then just 24 seconds later, Gordon scored again on an unassisted goal to power the Panthers to a 3-0 lead.
ODU's offense wasn't finished with its first half scoring. Ferguson scored on a one-timer with an assist from Bates in the 41st minute to increase the lead to 4-0, then Bates scored her 13th goal of the year 35 seconds later on a header with an assist to D'Isidoro, pushing the Ohio Dominican lead to 5-0 at halftime.
Gordon scored her third goal of the day on a breakaway in the 48th minute and Tamm capped off the scoring for ODU in the 61st minute on a corner kick from Atkinson, earning a 7-0 win for the Panthers.
ODU will look to take its momentum into its Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match on Saturday at Panther Stadium.
