COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team earned their second consecutive shutout with a 1-0 win over Walsh in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in constant rain.
With the win, the Panthers advance to 3-1 and 2-0 in the G-MAC while Walsh drops to 3-1 and 2-1 in the conference.
The deciding goal for the Panthers came off the foot of junior Becca Gordon (Johnstown, Ohio) in the 53rd minute off an assist from Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio). Gordon received the long pass from Buck and beat two Cavalier defenders to find the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) earned her second shutout of the year between the posts as she recorded seven saves on the afternoon for the Panthers.
The first half saw the Panthers get outshot 8-6 with five coming on goal for the Cavaliers and two for the Panthers.
The second half was a similar story as the Panthers were outshot 7-4 but the Cavaliers could not find the back of the net.
The best look for the Cavaliers came in the 75th minute as a shot by Maggie Kortis hit the crossbar and on the rebound Brooke Bowser attempted to head the shot by Wierzbicki but the senior goalkeeper dove to catch the shot for her second to last save of the game.
The Panthers continue G-MAC play as they travel to Ursuline on Thursday, September 13 at 4 p.m.
