Women's Soccer Storms Past Lake Erie

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team defeated Lake Erie in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match-up by a score of 4-0 Saturday at Panther Stadium.

With the win, the Panthers advance to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the G-MAC while Lake Erie drops to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Panther offense had four different goal scorers in the game with two goals in each half.

Sophomore Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) continued her early season tear as she extended her league lead in goals finding the back of the net in the 21st minute for her fifth goal of the season. Buck's goal came off a cross from the outside left of the box from senior Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) where Buck finished lower left past the goalkeeper.

Just three minutes later, freshman Mari Silvestri (Solon, Ohio)  beat her defender from the left side and slid a shot on the near side past the goalkeeper to extend the Panther lead to 2-0 going into halftime.

ODU outshot Lake Erie 14-5 in the first half with six shots on target for the Panthers and three on target for the Storm.

In the second half, junior Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Mich.) recorded her first goal as a Panther in the 61st minute. Rankin took the shot from the center of the box off a pass from just outside the left box from Silvestri With Rankin finding the back of the net, that made the score 3-0 in favor of the Panthers.

In the 82nd minute, junior Gabrielle Jones (Lima, Ohio) also recorded her first goal as a Panther as she found the pass from senior Abby Tamm (Fairfield Township, Ohio) to complete the scoring for the Panthers.

Senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) recorded her third shutout in four games playing all 90 minutes between the posts with four saves.

Overall, ODU outshot Lake Erie 31-9 with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Panthers hit the road for the next matchup as they travel to Findlay on Thursday, September 20 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
