CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team sealed the fifth seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference quarterfinal as they defeated Cedarville 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday at the Yellow Jacket Soccer Complex.
ODU trailed throughout most of the contest at Hannah Atkinson put the Jackets up 1-0 in the 7th minute.
The Panthers outshot the Jackets 7-4 in the first half with each team having two on goal. ODU had the advantage on corner kicks at 4-2 in the half but could not convert.
That 1-0 score would hold until the 70th minute when Buck scored her 10th goal of the season as she snuck a shot past the Jacket goalkeeper from 20-yards out to knot the game at 1-1 where the teams went to overtime.
ODU outshot the Jackets 8-3 in the second half where the Panthers had five on goal to the Jackets one. ODU once again had the advantage in corner kicks at 4-3.
In the first overtime, ODU was unable to get a shot off but a clutch save from senior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) kept the Panthers alive.
The second overtime saw Cedarville once again outshoot the Panthers. However, the through ball from Knobloch and a misplay by the Jacket keeper allowed Buck the open net for her sixth game winner of the year which leads the conference.
Wierzbicki played all 108 minutes in goal for the Panther defense facing six shots and making five saves on the evening.
ODU clinched the fifth seed and will travel to the fourth seeded Oilers of Findlay on Saturday, October 27 with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
