Panthers Begin Season with 6-3 Win over Hillsdale

The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team overcame an early deficit to earn an early season win on Friday afternoon on Panther Courts.

Doubles play saw all three courts fluctuate back and forth before the visitors gained the 2-1 advantage. Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) and Ana Pico (So./A Coruña, Spain) earned the lone point for ODU with an 8-5 win on court three.

In singles play the Panthers took early control of the match and looked to be in command, but a determined Hillsdale team responded with strong play. Regina Camberos (Jr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) turned in a strong performance to even the score 2-2, with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court five. Pico gave ODU another point with a strong 6-2, 6-2 score on court two. Close behind was freshman Gabriela Bowe (Fr./Freeport, Bahamas) earning her first career singles win with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win on court three. Alejandra Gonzalez (So./Caracas, Venezuela) gave the Panthers the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #4 singles. Paula Rodriguez (So./Mostoles, Spain) finished off the scoring for the Black and Gold on court six, winning a three set match, 5-7, 6-3, 10-4.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow on Panther Courts at 2 p.m. when they welcome Wayne State University.
