The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team finished their long Upper Peninsula trip this morning with a strong 7-2 win over Lake Superior State University.
The Panthers took 2-of-3 doubles courts for the second straight match to give the visitors the early lead. Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) and Ana Pico (So./A Corona, Spain) finished their weekend in strong fashion, winning 8-1 on court three. Regina Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Alejandra Gonzalez (So./Caracas, Venezuela) built an early lead, pulling away to win 8-4 at #2 doubles.
In singles play, Pico earned the Panthers first point with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three. Gonzalez finished on a win on court four 6-4, 6-0 to bring ODU within one point of another GLIAC win. Freshman Gabriela Bowe (Freeport, Bahamas) earned the clinching point for the Black and Gold with strong play on court two, winning 6-4, 6-2. Camberos and Paula Rodriguez (So./Mostoles, Spain) finsihed off scoring for the Panthers on courts five and six, winning 6-0, 6-0 respectively.
Ohio Dominican returns to action on Tuesday, September 16th as they travel to Denison University for non conference action. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
