The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team traveled to Ashland, Ohio for a GLIAC match against Ashland University on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a hard fought 6-3 win.
The Panthers started strong in doubles play, eventually taking 2-of-3 courts. Alejandra Gonzalez (So./Caracas, Venezuela) and Regina Camberos (Jr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) eared their 4th consecutive win with an 8-2 win on court two. Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) and Ana Pico (So./A Corona, Spain) gave the Panthers their second point, winning 8-6 on court three.
Needing a strong effort in singles play to secure the GLIAC win, the Panthers took 4-of-6 courts to earn their first D2 win over Ashland. Gabriela Bowe (Fr./Freeport, Bahamas) was the first off the court, winning on court four, 6-1, 6-0. Pico was the next point for ODU, winning at #3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Gonzalez clinched the match for the Black and Gold with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court five. Camberos finished the scoring for the Panthers with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court six.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 19th as they welcome Tiffin University to Panther Courts for another GLIAC match. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
