Volleyball Inks Three in Early Signing Period
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After finishing its inaugural season in the GLIAC, Ohio Dominican's volleyball team has signed three players to join the squad for the 2011 season, head coach Sandy Rowley announced Wednesday.
The balanced class includes a setter in 5-9 Jessica Kodrich (Novelty, Ohio), a middle hitter in 5-11 Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio) and an outside hitter/defensive specialist in 5-10 Lauren Rindler (North Star, Ohio).
Kodrich was a two-team All-Chagrin Valley Conference selection playing for West Geauga. She helped lead the Wolverines to their first sectional titles and earned all-tournament accolades at a pair of competitions in her career. She also was named to the Cleveland Sun Newspaper Top Player List and was the 2009 Bowling Green Team Camp MVP. A standout in the classroom as well, Kodrich is a member of the National Honor Society and has been an Honor Roll student all four years.
"Jessica will be a strong addition to our offense in the setting position," Rowley said. "She brings with her the skills to keep our offense running at a quick pace and has the experience to be an impact player right away."
Kusan, who attends nearby Westerville North, earned First Team All-District and First Team All-Conference accolades for the Warriors this fall. She also earned all-conference and all-district honors earlier in her career at Worthington Christian. Kusan is a standout in basketball as well, having scored over 1,000 points in her career.
"Caitlin will bring added depth to our offense as a middle hitter," Rowley said. "She is also a very skilled blocker, which will be a huge asset to the team next season. Caitlin is a very athletic and focused player and is a valuable addition for our program."
Rindler, a three-sport athlete at Versailles, earned First Team All-District honors as a junior and senior and was a member of the state semifinalist team in 2008. She was First Team All-M.A.C. this fall after picking up Second Team accolades as a junior. Rindler also plays basketball, helping the Tigers reach states in 2009, and helped lead the track team to the 2010 state title last spring, with her 4x800 relay team placing second and the 4x400 team taking third.
"Lauren is a power hitter who will help us on our outside positions," Rowley said. "She also has the capability to help the team out on defense as well. Lauren is a well rounded player and will be a nice addition to the team."
