COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (16-25, 19-25, 23-25) decision to visiting Malone Friday night in G-MAC play from Alumni Hall.
The match featured 25 ties and 13 lead changes as junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) set a season-high with eight kills while hitting .500, to go with nine digs.
Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) led the Panthers with 12 kills and sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) added 10 while hitting .258. Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) tallied 24 assists and eight digs while freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished with 13 digs.
ODU hit .207 in the match, its fourth-best total of the season and best clip in a conference match.
Down 17-11 in the first set, the Panthers closed within 17-14 on a block by Rutter and freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio), but the Pioneers scored the next seven points to pull away.
ODU trailed 12-9 in the second set but a pair of Remmetter kills and a Malone error put the Panthers in front 14-13. ODU stayed in front at 17-16 on a block by freshman Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) and Rutter, but Malone again closed strong, this time finishing the set on a 9-2 run.
The third set had 15 ties and eight lead changes alone as neither side led by more than three points. ODU led 21-20 after a Malone hitting error and remained tied at 22-22 and 23-23 before the Pioneers (12-8, 8-3 G-MAC) managed the final two points of the match.
Ohio Dominican (2-17, 0-11 G-MAC) remains at home to play host to Walsh at 1 p.m. Saturday.
