Volleyball Hosts No. 20 Wheeling Tuesday Evening

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team is set to close out a three-match home stand by welcoming No. 20 Wheeling (W. Va.) to Alumni Hall at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The Panthers are fresh off a 3-0 home victory over Ursuline last Saturday, winning by a score of 25-13, 25-16 and 27-25. ODU hit .359 for the match, the team's first hitting performance over .350 since the 2015 season.

Sophomore Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) led the team in digs with 37 over the two matches, posting a double-double in each appearance. Remmetter had 11 kills and a career-high 23 digs against Lake Erie, before tallying 14 kills and 14 digs versus Ursuline. On the season, the sophomore is top 10 in the Great Midwest in attacks (9.0), points (3.4) and kills (2.9) per set.

Leading the team with 28 kills last week was sophomore Abbi Gillson (Canton, Ohio). Gillson had a team-best 16 kills in the win over the Arrows. She hit .321 for the week and averaged 4.00 kills per set.

Freshman Kamryn Maxwell (Norwalk, Ohio) had a double-double in the matches with Lake Erie and Ursline as well. Maxwell finished with 13 kills and 13 digs against the Storm and closed the stretch with 12 kills and 10 digs versus Ursuline. Classmate Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) enters Tuesday's match with 30-plus helpers in five consecutive matches. The freshman has 287 helpers this season, averaging 8.4 per set. During the two-game conference stretch, Deitsch posted 82 digs over seven sets.

Senior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) has led the back row for most of the season, pacing the Panthers with 195 digs. Rutter is averaging 3.55 digs per set this fall and is coming off 13- and 15-dig performances over the weekend.

Wheeling enters the match 13-3 overall and has won eight consecutive overall. The Cardinals were ranked No. 20 in Monday afternoon's AVCA National Coaches Poll and are 1-2 against nationally ranked teams in 2019. Wheeling is coming off a 37-4 season in 2018, advancing to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. The Cardinals have appeared in at least the regional championship in each of the last eight seasons, which includes a national championship run in 2015.
