Volleyball Drops Four Set Contest at OVU

VIENNA, W. Va. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team dropped a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest with Ohio Valley 3-1 Saturday afternoon at the Snyder Activity Center.

Sophomores Abbi Gillson (Canton, Ohio) and Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) led the way for the Panthers offensively each having 12 kills on the afternoon while freshman Emilee Fecht (Hilliard, Ohio) had 10. Freshman setter Carleigh Deitsch (St. Henry, Ohio) had 30 assists for the Panther offense as well.

ODU won the first set 25-20 before dropping the next three 25-16, 25-20 and 25-17.

The Panthers came out quickly in the first set as the team hit .419 throughout the set with Remmetter recording six kills and Gillson recording four kills with Deitsch having 11 assists in that first set. ODU opened a 10-6 lead to open the set capped by a Deitsch kill. The Fighting Scots would get back to within one at 18-17 but the Panthers outscored the Scots 7-3 the rest of the set capped by a kill from Deitsch.

The second set saw ODU (2-16, 2-4) break out to an early 6-2 lead before OVU (6-7, 1-4) came back to tie the set 8-8. With the score 12-10 in favor of the Scots, OVU would score 13 of the next 19 points to win the second set and tie the match at 1-1.

The third set started back-and-forth between the Scots and Panthers with OVU hanging on to a slight 11-9 lead. OVU would then go on to score nine of the next 13 points to take a 20-13 lead. ODU would then cut their deficit to 24-20 late in the set but were unable to climb all the way back to fall behind 2-1 with a 25-20 set three loss.

The fourth set, OVU jumped on the Panthers climbing to a 19-11 lead and finished the contest off 25-17 recording 13 kills and two aces in the final set.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend at the Midwest Crossover playing teams from the GLVC and GLIAC in Indianapolis.
