WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Junior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) hit a two-run homer and Ohio Dominican's baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip with a 10-4 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Panthers pounded out 15 hits to back up a solid outing from sophomore Daniel Mooney (Wauconda, Ill.), who worked seven innings and struck out six while allowing three runs. The right-hander allowed five hits in improving to 2-1 on the spring.
Delgado went 3-for-4 with three RBI, and senior Ryan Rovnak (Poland, Ohio) also had three hits and three RBI to pace the offense. Sophomore Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio) had three hits, sophomore Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) knocked in two and classmate Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) scored three runs.
ODU loaded the bases with nobody down in the first, and Tisdale singled home Rovnak and Schluessler to give the Panthers the early lead. Freshman Collin Parcher (Napoleon, Ohio) followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The Panthers kept the pressure on in the second inning. Schluessler had an RBI fielder's choice, then later scored on a Rovnak basehit. Delgado followed by blasting his first homer of the year, putting the Panthers on top 7-0 through two.
Mooney kept the Falcons off the board until the seventh, allowing just one hit in the first six frames before Notre Dame put three tallies up in that frame.
ODU came back with three runs of its own in the eighth, as Rovnak brought in two with a single and Delgado followed with an RBI basehit of his own to push the advantage to 10-3.
Sophomore Josh Henderson (Fairfield, Ohio) pitched the final two innings and allowed one unearned for ODU.
The Panthers return to action with a 4 p.m. game at Urbana on Wednesday.
