COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio) hit a bases-loaded, walkoff single into right-center field to lift Ohio Dominican's baseball team to a 4-3 win over Northwood Sunday in GLIAC action from Panther Valley.
Three walks – two of them intentional – preceded Raschilla's plate appearance, and he ripped a 1-1 fastball into the gap in right-center to score freshman Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) to end the game in the ninth.
The Panthers improved to 13-8 (3-3 GLIAC) with the win, while Northwood fell to 9-9 (2-3 GLIAC).
Senior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) started and threw eight sharp innings, holding Northwood to three runs on just four hits. He struck out five and walked two, though he did not earn a decision. Borgan threw 75 of his 114 pitches for strikes.
ODU jumped to a 2-0 lead early. Senior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) started the first with a triple to right-center on the first pitch he saw, then scored on an RBI groundout by junior Kyle Suminski (Fraser, Mich.).
Delgado then delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle in the second to give the Panthers the two-run advantage.
Northwood answered with a two-out, two-run single in the third, then tacked on another run in the fourth to go in front 3-2.
ODU answered with a run in the sixth, as senior Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio) doubled to start the inning, then came in to score on a sacrifice fly from junior Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) to knot it at 3-3.
Borgan worked a perfect seventh and eighth inning to keep the game tied, and junior Vince Bartolone (Broadview Heights, Ohio) induced a double play grounder in the ninth to give the Panthers a chance to earn the walkoff victory.
Delgado went 2-for-4 as the Panthers finished with seven hits on the day, extending his hitting streak to 14 straight games. Raschilla was 1-for-2 but drew three walks.
The Panthers and Timberwolves conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday.
