COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Ryan Colegate (Centerville, Ohio) was sharp through eight innings and Ohio Dominican's offense pounded out 13 hits as the baseball team earned a 9-1 victory over Hillsdale Wednesday in GLIAC action from Panther Valley.
Colegate allowed just six hits and the one run in the longest start of his career. He threw 73 of his 103 pitches for strikes and struck out four without issuing a walk in improving to 2-1 on the spring.
ODU's No. 3-No. 6 hitters combined to go 10-for-18 with six RBI and seven runs scored, while junior Kyle Suminski (Fraser, Mich.) had three hits as well to lead the Panthers to the series victory, taking two of three games from Hillsdale the past two days.
A three-run second inning helped spark ODU, with senior Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio) scoring on a failed pickoff attempt, junior Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) delivering an RBI single to score senior Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio), and Suminski hitting an RBI single to left to bring in Tisdale.
Tisdale's RBI single in the third gave ODU a 4-0 lead, and after Hillsdale scored a run in the fourth, ODU answered in the fifth with an RBI single to left-center by Rudolph.
The Panthers loaded the bases and scored twice in the sixth, and Tisdale socked a basehit to center with the bases loaded in the eighth to also plate two runners and give ODU the eight run victory.
Colegate was on target the entire game, allowing just the one tally in the fourth. Hillsdale had just one extra base hit and managed just two singles after the fourth.
The offensive production was the best by ODU since registering 12 runs on 15 hits in a win over Seton Hill on March 15.
Tisdale finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, Delgado went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Raschilla and Rudolph each had two hits.
The Panthers are back in action this weekend with a three-game series against Grand Valley State.
