PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Senior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) threw seven innings and freshman Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) smacked his first home run as Ohio Dominican's baseball team held on to defeat Lake Erie 6-3 on Wednesday in GLIAC play.
Borgan allowed six hits and three earned runs in the outing, striking out five to earn the victory.
Five Panthers had two hits apiece, including seniors Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) and Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio), juniors Kyle Suminski (Fraser, Mich.) and Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) and freshman Jimmy Gravett (Grove City, Ohio).
Burson delivered the big blow, as Lake Erie had scored twice in the seventh to cut ODU's lead to 4-3. With two outs in the top of the eighth, Burson's two-run blast down the left field line extended the Panther lead back to three runs, and relievers Alberto Canales (West Park, Fla.) and Vince Bartolone (Broadview Heights, Ohio) shut down the Storm offense in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory.
Raschilla's two-run double in the first inning gave the Panthers a quick lead, and an RBI single by Delgado and a sacrifice fly by Tisdale in the fifth put ODU on top 4-1.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 13 hits in the ballgame, their ninth time this season with 10 or more hits in a contest.
Ohio Dominican returns home for a three-game series this weekend against Findlay, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader.
